I'm a positive, happy person who is outgoing and loves people. I crave connection, but also enjoy quiet times to re-fuel.
I have a private counseling practice where I treat people with anxiety, depression, and those who have been betrayed by loved ones. I love this career and consider it a sacred honor to walk alongside those who are hurting.
And speaking of sacred, I love Jesus and have served Him since I was 14. I'm from a more conservative biblical background and believe the Bible to be true and I believe it is the love and compassion of God that draws people to Him.
Up until a few years ago I taught counseling, sociology and college success in the undergrad and graduate colleges at a local university. As my practice grew, it became necessary to give that up, but I still miss it at times. It was so much fun to watch my counseling students grow from being my students to being my colleagues in the field.
I used to an avid reader and need to get back to that. I'm a bit of a Tolkien and CS Lewis geek, but not enough to be obnoxious, lol!
I love to travel and hope to do more of it in my retirement. I've been to 49 of the 50 states; Alaska awaits me! Several of my friends and I have a non-profit called Walking Stick Retreats and do 2-4 retreats a year around the country. We've been doing this for 7 years and love being able to do ministry together.
I'm allergic to cats, although I like them. I adore dogs, big dogs and own one. Theo is a 5 year old Newfydoodle; part Newfoundland and part standard poodle. He is a huge, fluffy cuddle bunny, who neither sheds nor drools. He comes to work with me to let my clients love on him. He's wonderful with them.
I hate to make politics a deal breaker, but it kind of is. I'm a conservative and am frustrated with the liberal direction of our country. Life is too short to be divided about these crucial values, I need someone who shares them.
