I like to travel and have done a lot both in Australia and overseas. My destinations have been guided by my interests, which means that I have found myself in many national parks, reserves and wilderness areas in various parts of the world.

I’ve visited about 30 World Heritage sites in countries of every continent, except for the Antarctica. That one is coming up.

Most of my travel has been as an independent traveller on a low budget. That made life interesting in some places, like China in 1985. I was told independent travel wasn’t allowed there. Nevertheless, I did it for 5 weeks. It was hard, but well worth it.

When I’m not travelling, I’m at home, in Canberra, Australia. Canberra is Australia’s best kept secret. Oops I shouldn’t have said that.

I strongly believe that we should all be respectful and kind to each other and all other creatures, animal, vegetable or mineral.

I have had Parkinson’s disease for 12 years. When I was diagnosed I asked the doctor what should I do. He answered “keep moving”. And I have. Following the doctor’s advice I walk or go to gym most days and this (plus the medication) has slowed the progress of the disease.

I think I have a few good years left in me.
