I am a sincere, compassionate, well-educated person. I am a sensitive person and would like to avoid being hurt by deception. I have traditional values and like being respected as a lady. I am a practicing Catholic and my faith is important to me. My faith in God and the good people in my life have enabled me to manage the sorrow of my husband’s death. I have had the blessing of kindness extended so often. I see the hand of God at those times.
My husband died of a brain tumor 4.5 years ago. He was always healthy until that point in time and the illness was incurable. I have spent a good bit of time processing my grief. Since Mike’s death, I do virtual support work for the brain tumor community. I often say that with grief, “The deeper the love, the more profound the grief.” I was married for almost 40 years to a wonderful husband. We had no children and had a loving and happy life, often doing a great deal for family. Our life was a very decent and good life, so I have no skeletons in the closet to hide.
Prior to retirement, I was a school counselor and in my early career, a Spanish teacher. I have a Master’s and Bachelor of Science degree. My career was important to me. In retirement, I use my time for volunteer work: on Board of local food pantry, ministry in my parish, help at a soup kitchen, support for brain tumor community, etc. My work related to brain tumor community has been a way to help others suffering the terrible disease which caused my husband to die. Often when we help others, we can transform something painful by giving to others.
I have a home which I love. My yard/gardens are my joy when the weather is nice. I enjoy time outdoors a great deal. Other interests are walking, yoga, exercising, spending time with friends. The topic of travel arises. I like going away a few times/year, but I am not one who needs to be going somewhere all the time. I can be content in my local surroundings.
As for politics, which seem to be a large issues currently, I am an Independent. I am aware of issues, but do not like constant talk of politics nor do I like someone trying to push their opinions on me. My views are conservative rather than liberal.
I was raised in Greenville, DE and moved to NJ when we married in 1978. I am the oldest of five sisters who live in various places now. Along life’s way we spent lots of time with family and our nieces and nephews were important to us.
As I move along in this journey, I say that my life is in God’s hands and pray for guidance.
